What’s our ‘secret sauce’?

Doug has an uncanny ability to break down something very complicated and then look at things from a different angle - resulting in an unexpected and surprising way forward. However without his whiteboard he would be lost. ( Anna ‘painted’ a whiteboard onto a wall at home to keep him happy!)

Anna, meantime, often seems to have a gut sense of what may be happening ‘behind the scenes’ and her curious questioning can loosen things up a little; it often moves the discussion onward in perhaps an unpredicted but beneficial manner.

And of course, with Doug’s over 20 year’s varied experience as a CEO - much of which you can read in his book - Doing Good Great - he brings a lot to the table. We both have a diverse tool kit - from tried and tested techniques to more contemporary offerings such as those by Brene Brown in her Dare to Lead series.

Anna brings her general creativity and ‘joined up thinking’ as shown by her being invited to coauthor a chapter in the Internationally acclaimed text book - Creative Methods in Schema Therapy. Clearly it’s for a specific audience, but it attests to her love of thinking outside the box, finding the spark, that imaginative input, to bring wholeness, along with a bucket load of empathy and care.

FOR A PEAK INTO WHAT MAKES THEM TICK, RECENT CONVERSATIONS OVER A SHORT CITY BREAK INCLUDED:

  • Interest in the idea of the Leading Edge of Consciousness (we read some of Ken Wilbur’s books) and the growth and development of humankind over millennia - from mythic, tribal communities, to magic oriented beliefs to - well…where we find ourselves now!

  • Chatting about how even the word ‘work’ means something different these days, where the younger generation are demanding equity, corporate activism and how the old concept of work/life balance is no longer relevant.

  • Continuing discussions about the deconstruction and reconstructing of faith- particularly in orthodox, institutional and fundamental religion. And also the importance of looking at faith development and stage theories- that goes across all major religions and faith communities.

  • And did we mention a book called The Physics of God? And Until The end of Time by Brian Greene? Goodness knows what people at the next table in the restaurant thought as we entertained the possibility of our three dimensional universe being just one of many universes in a two dimensional energy-verse……

Needless to say all these discussions are better when accompanied by an Affogato!
